Welcome to the NM-YRRS Student Resources page! The NM-YRRS is part of a national effort to learn directly from young people about the issues that affect them, including personal safety, mental health, substance use (drugs, alcohol, and tobacco), sexual health, personal resilience and supportive relationships, On this page, you can find links to resources that support youth health and wellbeing. Kid Power International
Resource for personal safety topics geared toward all audience ages and adapted for different abilities. Topics include relationship safety, bullying prevention, boundary setting, sexual assault prevention, online safety, preventing LGBTQ+ discrimination, and emotional safety. Contains a range of resources including videos designed for teaching skills, articles based on different topics, and strategies for empowerment for personal safety. Resources in multiple languages.

Information for Parents with Teens (Ages 12-19)
This CDC sponsored resource provides helpful guidance for parents and teens on topics like risky behaviors, substance use, physical and mental health, driving, violence, and reducing risk. Includes ways to engage parents in supporting the health and wellbeing of teens.

Esperanza Bicycle Safety Education Center
Focused on bicycle education for safety, self-sufficiency, comfort of all kinds of bike riders. Provides classes on bicycle safety, road use, traffic laws, and riding skills. Accepts donations of bicycles and related items, donated and refurbished bicycles.

Pacer Center’s Teens Against Bullying
Dedicated to preventing and addressing bullying, this resource provided resources for teens to advocate for themselves and others through advocacy activities, including a student action plan. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, this resource provides information about bullying. Includes mental health resources for all ages and in different languages. Contains a toolkit to empower teens to organize and empower change in their communities through organizing anti-bullying events.

Resources provided by youth-led movements to prevent bullying. Geared towards youths and teens, this website provides ways that teens can start or join campaigns, hear stories from others that experience similar situations, and develop supportive relationships with others.

Suicide/Mental Health/Self-Harm :: texting, chatting and phone support…

The New Mexico Crisis Line: Call or text 988 or chat online at 988lifeline.org offers 24/7 access to trained crisis counselors who can help people experiencing mental health-related distress. That could be thoughts of suicide, mental health or behavioral health, substance use concerns, or any other kind of emotional distress.

The Trevor Project
Aimed at ending suicide with LGBTQ+ youth, the Trevor Project provides access to mental health supports and resources about suicide, gender identity, sexual orientation, diversity, and community.

988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline
Sponsored by The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, this website provides resources for youth experiencing suicide risk. Youths can get help in real time by chatting with professionals. Topics include resources for self-care, safety plans, LGBTQ+ youth, neurodivergent youth, and those with disabilities. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is a 24-hour, toll-free, confidential suicide prevention hotline available to anyone in suicidal crisis or emotional distress. When you call 1-800-273-TALK (8255), you are connected to the nearest crisis center in a national network of more than 150 that provide crisis counseling and mental health referrals day and night. The Lifeline also provides informational materials, such as brochures, wallet cards, posters, and booklets. Spanish Language Services available at (1-888-628-9454). Translators speaking approximately 150 languages are available.

American Lung Association:
Helping Teens Quit
The American Lung Association is committed to helping educate, intervene, and prevent the use of tobacco and nicotine by the next generation. This is especially important because close to 95 percent of smokers try their first cigarette before the age of 21. With the Federal Drug Administration’s recent announcement about teen vaping reaching epidemic levels, the fight against nicotine and tobacco has become even more vital. The resources can offer you the tools to not only talk to your kids about the dangers of tobacco but to help them quit if they have already become addicted.
